Unfortunately the building is not.  However, we are happy to meet you at your residence or office. We are also happy to come down and meet you in our parking lot for intake, payments, and pick up. Do you teach people how to use computers?

Computer Solutions is excited to offer personalized training! Our tutors are experienced in teaching young adults, working professionals, and senior citizens. We are happy to provide this service in our office, or at your home/office.

Can you help me restrict internet access for my kids?

Our Designated Child Network Service is designed to do just this. We will set up parental controls on a separate WiFi network, just for the kids. This allows you to keep your original WiFi network for adult use, while having a safe and dedicated network for the kids! (Back to Top)

Can you fix my screen?

I don’t know what is wrong, can you service my computer anyway?

Yes, in this case we reccomend our Diagnostic service. We charge 100$ (1 labor hour cost) for this initial service.

During the diagnostic we establish the cause of your issue, assess cost of repair, and create an estimate for the total cost of the project. We will then provide you with an upfront estimate to get your device in working order. And with your permission, will complete the work quoted in the estimate to fix your computer.

If you decline our recommendations the diagnostic fee is non-refundable, as labor is committed to the project while we discover solutions. However if you decide to go forward with the repair, the deposit does cover one hour of labor and is applied towards the total due at payment. (Back to Top)

How do I back up my data, and is it necessary?

We ALWAYS recommend having at least one backup solution for your important data, regardless if you are an individual user or a company. Can you recover my data?

Yes! Call us at 860.239.0708 ASAP to get a no obligation estimate on file recovery. Even in severe cases of computer failure most people’s files can be retrieved. We can supply an external drive for the recovered data for an additional cost, or you can provide your own.

 We are usually able to recover data from a failed hard drive, but considering the nature of the task we feel it is important to be upfront about the risk. This service is not guaranteed to be successful, and as such refunds are not offered.

Our staff is experienced in both data backup and recovery on Windows, Apple, and Linux computers. If you have any questions on file recovery, versioning, ransomware remediation, or recovery services, know that we are here to help. (Back to Top)

How long will it take?

Every job is a little different, but most services in the office take 1-3 days, not accounting for any needed shipping times. Tutoring services are by the hour. Home services generally are resolved within one visit,  which can range anywhere from one hour to several hours. Why should I use a password manager? 

A password manager is a tool which lets you forget all your complicated passwords and log in info for websites, the manager does it for you!

Password managers also help generate complex passwords to help keep you safe, while you only have to remember one master password. You can even sort your accounts credentials into folders, share folders with trusted people, and more. Talk about convenience! (Back to Top)

What is the point of having a different password for every account or application I use?

Let us assume you have the same password for (as an example) your banking applications, Amazon account, favorite news outlet, and favorite recipe site. If your password is discovered, and is the same for all four of our example websites, the hacker can access ANY of those accounts!

In many cases the email used to sign up for these services is the same, and your unique password is what keeps you safe! (Back to Top)

Why should I bother with a strong password?

Those with malicious intent have a variety of tools at their disposal, including programs to discover your passwords through brute force. A strong password makes these programs significantly less effective.

A strong password is one which has at least 12 characters, is new & not recycled, and utilizes lower & upper case characters, numbers, & symbols. Cryptography is based on length of the password, so the longer it is the more protected you are.

How often should I change my password?

We recommend you change your password if you have reason to believe your password has been stolen. Make sure you change it on all of your accounts where you use the same or a similar password.

According to the FTC, “If you shared your password with a friend, change it. If you saw someone looking over your shoulder as you were typing your password, change it. If you think you might have just given your password to a phishing website, change it. If your current password is weak, change it. If it will make you feel better or if you just feel like it’s time for a change, then by all means go ahead and change your password3“.
